I've always thought that if it was symbolic, there would be no need for John to mention this mark could be found either of two places. So it is illogical to me that this "666" is a symbolic reference. Furthermore, John later shows us categorically that it actually is not purely symbolic, or at least not universal. In Revelations 20, we we are told "And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, [i]neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands..."[/i]. The church has the largest wheat storage in the world that can feed a whole city for weeks?? Why do we need to work to having a one year supply?? Could it have a connection with the anti christ causing a mark that we do not want so we cannot buy our food from the local superstores? or any other place? Also the ani christ will make war with the saints?? Why does he/she or whatever it is make war with the saints, because we are Gods people and he knows this??? Or does it make more sense that we aswel as other christians refuse his mark and his ways and refuse to worship his image?? Is this why he makes war and the great patience of the saints comes in that John the revelator spoke of?? Just food for thought?? But i dont just think food storage is gonna get us through whats coming but i also dont think that food storage is just for stormy weather and floods and so on? I think when looking at the mark of he beast you need to include who the beast is??? Or his role and it may connect better that way? Just my thoughts and my own speculation? Hence the name/number of the beast is DCLXVI.[/quote] To which I respond: The earliest surviving manuscripts of John's Apocalypse are written in Greek, which is: ??? ? ??????? ????? ????????? ???????? ??, and roughly translates into: but this is a fixed and definite number for himself which is six hundred sixty and six. But that is probably not the language John wrote the book in, which most likely was Aramaic, a Semitic language.
