Spiritual Wickedness in High Places
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Eph. 6: 12).
Throughout the Book of Mormon, we can read about many examples of spiritual wickedness in high places. One of the highest places, is in government. A majority of the Book of Mormon examples point to the greatest of wickedness coming from corrupt leaders in government.
As we look at the many examples within the Book of Mormon, there are few that the people actually are successful in maintaining their liberty. The reason? Because few humble themselves, repent, and turn back to God. They continue to justify their behavior rather then seeking to have a change of heart. It is this change of heart, that makes them become more like Jesus Christ. They are born again, new, and pursue a new course.
In the Book of Helaman we read:
Hel. 6: 18, 31, 37-38
18 And now behold, those murderers and plunderers were a band who had been formed by Kishkumen and Gadianton. And now it had come to pass that there were many, even among the Nephites, of Gadianton’s band. But behold, they were more numerous among the more wicked part of the Lamanites. And they were called Gadianton’s robbers and murderers. “¢ “¢
31 And now behold, he had got great hold upon the hearts of the Nephites; yea, insomuch that they had become exceedingly wicked; yea, the more part of them had turned out of the away of righteousness, and did trample under their feet the commandments of God, and did turn unto their own ways, and did build up unto themselves idols of their gold and their silver.
37 And it came to pass that the Lamanites did hunt the band of robbers of Gadianton; and they did preach the word of God among the more wicked part of them, insomuch that this band of robbers was utterly destroyed from among the Lamanites.
38 And it came to pass on the other hand, that the Nephites did build them up and support them, beginning at the more wicked part of them, until they had overspread all the land of the Nephites, and had seduced the more part of the righteous until they had come down to believe in their works and partake of their spoils, and to join with them in their secret murders and combinations.
In verse 37 we can see that the way that this wickedness was utterly destroyed was through the preaching of the word of God. Many of us discuss finding liberty minded candidates to run for office so that we can restore the Constitution, to protect our liberty, what if we also focused on preaching the gospel to the “more wicked part of them”? I think it is worth a try.
I encourage each of you who stumble across this article, to organize a group in your state, to send a Book of Mormon and the verses from the Doctrine and Covenants about government and the Constitution to each of your U.S. Senators, U.S. Congressmen, as well as your State Representatives and State Senators. If nothing else, discuss the history contained within the Book of Mormon, that there were two nations that were once on this same continent, that lost their liberty through corruption in government, by those who sought only for power and gain. Plead with them to read the Book of Mormon so that they may better be prepared to defend our nation from these encroachments on our liberties. You never know what the outcome could be. If nothing else, you have at least cried with a warning voice to those in office, about the awful situation that we live in. You will have made them accountable for the knowledge that they have been given. And the Book of Mormon itself, through the power of the Holy Ghost, will testify to them of the truthfulness of the restored gospel.
As members of the church of Jesus Christ in these the Last Days, I believe that those of us who are currently awake and aware, are accountable for whether or not we applied the teachings of the Book of Mormon to our lives today, whether or not we preached the gospel to the more wicked part of those that hold power to guard our liberty in the highest places of this nation. We must be as Christ, and stand before wickedness in high places, and testify of the truth. We must work to not allow this wickedness to continue.
4 Ne. 1: 40
40 And it came to pass that *two hundred and forty and four years had passed away, and thus were the affairs of the people. And the more wicked part of the people did wax strong, and became exceedingly more numerous than were the people of God.
We do not want this to continue to be the case in our highest levels of government. If it continues, the majority of the people will become wicked because their leaders are. They will lose sight of their God and worship a wicked king man instead. We are the guardians of liberty, we are here at this time as freemen, because we are the ones that we have been waiting for. We must work today.
John 9: 4.
4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
